A Tale Woven from Shared Experience and Commitment:
Creating Product with People for a Purpose!
It’s hard to understand an event’s significance in the moment it occurs.
After 50 combined years in the shoe and fashion industry, we dreamed of one day creating our own company where we could approach business based on our own values and ideals. In a time of technical innovation and countless companies speeding to market to make a profit, we wanted to focus on the quality of the product and building a true connection with consumers—people over profits.
Our mission to create a shoe that defined comfort, weight and function, led us to an unusual fabric discovery in China. A friend and business associate in Taiwan discovered an innovative garment machine. The process it uses creates a massive weave so tightly woven that it offers a remarkable amount of flexibility and stretch, but the fabric’s buoyancy helps maintain its original shape. He decided to explore whether that technology could be introduced through footwear.
When he shared this concept with us, we knew in that moment this was a big enough idea to build a platform (home-base) for our company. Our background is footwear, but this material could have a lot of different applications where comfort, durability, washability, and breathability are important. We have our sights set on growing into an international lifestyle brand.
Soon after, when vacationing in Kenya, we noticed the women weaving colored materials into various bracelets, day in and day out. We learned the women were provided the supplies and business education through the Maasai Beaded Project to empower them to be self-sufficient and self-sustaining. Their products are sold in their local markets.
The culture in Kenya is not ideal for the natives—picture threating environments for both the people and wildlife. Cue our motivation for Loom Way of Life to connect our skill set with our passion to pay it forward.
Loom Way of Life has proudly partnered with www.CustomSafaris.com to help bring resources to the Maasai Mara region of Kenya, also known as the Kingdom of Lions. Instead of giving away shoes, we’ve chosen to give 10% of our profits to the Maasai Beaded Project to help eliminate limits for the women of Kenya. In the future, Loom Way of Life will be collaborating with these women to bring their talents to a collection of our accessories and shoes.
Our sincere thanks to everyone for supporting this cause. A strong movement begins with the first step and we’ve got the footwear ready.
BELIEVE IN THE WEAVE,
Mark & Charley
